LatinAmericanScores™ is a groundbreaking resource designed to make the richness and diversity of Latin American music fully accessible to orchestras worldwide. Each arrangement is meticulously crafted based on decades of musicology, ethnomusicology, performing arts practices, and orchestration research, ensuring that the music’s authentic aesthetics, cultural values, and stories are preserved. Unlike traditional editions that impose Eurocentric interpretations or rely on poorly prepared handwritten copies, our scores allow orchestras to perform the music exactly as it was meant to be experienced.

Our arrangements are fully flexible and performance-ready, accommodating full symphonic instrumentation and even optional soloist parts with accompanying vocal scores. They are designed for all levels of orchestras—professional, youth, training, and community—whether musicians have prior experience with Latin American music or not. Celia Cruz’s iconic song “La Vida Es un Carnaval” (1998), composed by Víctor Daniel and produced by Isidro Infante, stands as a timeless anthem of hope, resilience, and joy. Written in response to the tragic 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires, the song encourages listeners to embrace life with positivity and celebrate each moment despite adversity, urging “don’t cry, live singing.” Featured as the lead single from her album Mi Vida Es Cantar, it quickly became one of Cruz’s most recognized and beloved works, winning Tropical Song of the Year at the 2003 Lo Nuestro Awards and securing a spot on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” (#439). Its infectious salsa rhythm, uplifting lyrics, and universal message have transcended borders, inspiring countless covers and appearing in films like Amores Perros (2000) and Antwone Fisher (2002), solidifying its status as a cultural and musical touchstone in Latin America and beyond. As the General Director of the Performing Arts Laboratory and Music Director of The Americas Chamber Orchestra, his dynamic conducting, innovative productions, and groundbreaking research in Performing Arts Sustainability have garnered international acclaim and significant community engagement.

Maestro Barbosa-Vásquez has collaborated as Conductor with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, IU Opera and Ballet Theater, and IU Symphonies (USA). He has also served as Music & Artistic Director of the Bloomington Opera Camp™ (Bloomington, IN, USA), the CASC Opera Camp and the World Music Symphony Orchestra (Los Angeles, CA, USA); Music & Artistic Director of Pronartes Musical Theater, Huila Philharmonic, and E&P Orchestra and Choir System (Colombia), and Principal Guest Conductor of El Salvador National Youth Symphony Orchestra for 6 years.

He holds a Doctorate in Opera, Orchestra, and Ballet Conducting from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (USA), with Doctoral Minors in Music Theory and Arts Administration. In addition, he has conducted internationally awarded Postdoctoral research on Latin American cultures, arts, and identities as an Artist/Scholar in collaboration with centers such as CLACS, as well as PostDoctoral research on Performing Arts Sustainability—encompassing artistic, financial, social, and ecological dimensions—with an emphasis on international business, political economy, entrepreneurship, and public policy in collaboration with multiple institutions worldwide including the renowned Ostrom Workshop, earning him significant recognition.
